University of Rhode Island NBC Solar Carports

The state’s public flagship research university, University of Rhode Island (URI) ensures the proper maintenance and environmental stewardship of its facilities, which account for 25% of the state’s buildings. After the success of URI’s first solar carports which earned awards and accolades, the university began planning a second solar carport at 7 Service Road in Providence.
Solar carports are overhead steel canopies that support solar panels which collect sunlight, a renewable energy source, and convert it to electricity. Ellana’s cost estimates featured pricing on concrete transformer pads and bollards, under canopy lights, electrical components, CATV, and crushed stone foundations.
