Egleston Square Branch Library
Boston, MA
Boston Public Library plans to renovate a popular branch library. Egleston Square, constructed in 1953, serves the community in Roxbury and Jamaica Plain. Sections of the original building will be repurposed in the new 16,300 SF library, particularly the façade.
The Sasaki team designed a library with a civic presence. The larger building will use clear interior sight lines to connect the outdoors. The new library will maintain the outdoor space while incorporating seating and planting beds shaded by existing large trees. An adult reading room and children’s room are part of the program.
Ellana prepared an SD cost estimate which included pricing for wood structural framing and mechanical systems.
