U.S. Department of Energy Forrestal Building Garage Repairs
Washington, DC
Ellana served as cost estimator for a 1,000 SF underground project to improve the expansion joints and columns as well as restore beams in a section of the garage at the Forrestal Building. This massive government building sits prominently on Independence Avenue SW and houses the U.S. Department of Energy.
The Forrestal Building is a notable example of Brutalist architecture, a style characterized by exposed concrete and geometric forms. Originally constructed in 1969 as Federal Office Building 5, it was designed to house U.S. Armed Forces personnel and was nicknamed the “Little Pentagon.” In 1977, it became the headquarters for the newly established Department of Energy, which consolidated several existing federal agencies.
