Queen Anne’s County Historic Courthouse Interior Renovation

Centreville, MD

Located on Maryland’s Eastern Shore in the town of Centreville, Queen Anne’s County courthouse is the second oldest courthouse in continuous operation in the United States. The courthouse opened in 1796. A modern Circuit Courthouse was recently completed across the street; however, this historic building will continue to operate as the Register of Wills and Orphans’ Court to maintain its status.

The awarded team designed a major interior renovation to upgrade MEP and life safety systems. Eliminating the acoustic ceiling tiles will expose the original height of each room. Removing HVAC bulkheads allows the team to restore the original glass transoms above the doors to interior rooms to provide more natural light. Plans for the majestic second floor courtroom include ceremonial events. Local citizens petitioned Queen Anne’s County to remove the white paint from the exterior of the building. Renovation work will include restoring the exterior bricks to their original red color while other masonry repairs will be done.

Ellana’s estimate included concrete, masonry, woods & plastics, metals, thermal & moisture protection, FF&E, passenger elevator, fire suppression, HVAC, life safety components, security systems, and earthwork.
