NYC Parks Red Hook Recreation Center Reconstruction
Brooklyn, NY
A popular recreation site in Brooklyn will finally be repaired after Superstorm Sandy destroyed the facility in 2012. Red Hook Recreation Center and outdoor pool will be reconstructed to include hazard mitigation, building electrification and sustainability upgrades, interior upgrades throughout the facility to comply with current building codes, and exterior upgrades to the building and pool.
Restoring the 86,000 SF recreational facility includes structural challenges such as shoring to properly stabilize the structures. Ellana developed cost estimates for the design team. Our estimates included pricing and labor rates for flood gates, a new glulam structure bathroom pavilion, basketball courts, and an outdoor swimming pool.
Originally built in 1936 under President Roosevelt’s Works Progress Administration (WPA) program, Red Hook Recreation Center remains an important anchor for the community.
