MSBA George E. Mitchell Elementary School

Bridgewater, MA

After the project owner concluded that the existing, 60 year old, Mitchell Elementary School was beyond its useful life, detailed design began on the new school. ELLANA worked with the design team on each phase of the project, including the initial study phases. We drew on our previous experiences working on MSBA projects and applied our knowledge of the agency’s standard procedures to ensure project success. Our work on the project also included reconciling our estimate with the OPM’s estimator.

This new, full scale Elementary school had a few distinct aspects that set it apart from other schools of a similar style. The town was tasked with connecting the school grounds to the nearby Senior Center. The connection came by way of a proposed roadway-bridge that linked to two town owned properties. The building also had a particularly challenging site in itself. During the conceptual design phase of the project, the civil engineering team developed creative solutions to work with the constraints they were given. As design progressed the architecture team added features like a large glass lobby, and skylights throughout the building. The entire project team came together to deliver a great elementary school for the Bridgewater-Rayham community.
