Henderson Inclusion School - Window Replacement, Fire Protection, and Accessibility Upgrades

Ellana provided cost estimating services from SD through the CD phase for the replacement of the lower windows at the Henderson Inclusion School in addition to accessibility upgrades and fire protection.

The purpose of the project focused on bringing this K-12 school up to code for energy, fire safety, and accessibility. Upgrades involved replacing all lower windows with new energy compliant models, making the necessary ADA accessibility upgrades to the interior and exterior of the school, as well as installing a new sprinkler system. The accessibility upgrades featured adding a chairlift to the school entry and ramps to all exterior doors.

The team faced several challenges while renovating this old existing structure. For example, while assessing the sprinklers and windows, it was discovered that hazmat abatement work was necessary. Fire protection retrofitting, ramp accessibility and the necessary interior construction were the biggest cost drivers.
