Congregation Kehilath Jeshurun Ramaz School Renovation
New York, NY
This project involves preparing conceptual, schematic design and final construction documents cost estimates for the renovation of the 66,000sf Ramaz School. The project scope of work included a full renovation of the existing 8-story school and synagogue following an accidental fire during construction renovation, and, as a result, the roof slab collapsed causing damage to the lower structural slabs. The overall building was also damaged due to the efforts to put the fire out, resulting in a majority of the MEP and interior systems requiring replacement.Work included the redesign/reconfiguration of the science floor, including three new modern, dedicated lab spaces at the rear of the building and a flexible configuration of classrooms, offices, and prep rooms.
Our services included pricing of the various design schemes at the earliest stages of design to assist ownership in choosing the most economical option. Following this, we prepared estimates at each stage of the design phase. As part of our cost estimating services, we also conducted reconciliation sessions at each stage of the design phase with the estimates of the construction manager to properly evaluate the scope of work and to verify that the costs included in the estimate reflected the current construction market accurately. This work reduced the construction budget, saving the school approximately $3 million.
