Bay Ridge Preparatory School
This project involves assisting MJM Architects in their investigation and review for the feasibility of expanding the existing elementary school building. The school currently occupies 20,200sf on two levels of which one level is below grade, with an addition of 28, 600sf. A detailed conceptual cost estimate with various options such as infilling open lower roof areas to achieve the program requirements or adding an additional floor over the existing upper roof only which was the considered option. The scope of work comprised enlarging the existing interior footings to support the additional loads; adding a new elevator to serve all floors; new exterior access ramp for ADA at front of building; alterations to the existinginterior layouts; extending egress stairs to new addition; new playground at roof; upgrades to the existing structural elements; and new mechanical and electrical infrastructure. We led several extensive value engineering sessions to bring the project cost back down from the original $4.9 million estimate.
